Lesson 6: Shapes All Around Us
Shapes are everywhere — in buildings, windows, wheels, and even food! Let's learn the names and properties of the most important shapes.
Key Concepts
Flat Shapes (2D)
A circle is perfectly round. A square has 4 equal sides. A rectangle has 4 sides but two are longer. A triangle has exactly 3 sides. These are called 2D shapes because they are flat.
Corners and Sides
Shapes are described by how many sides and corners they have. A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners. A square has 4 sides and 4 corners. A circle has no sides or corners!
Solid Shapes (3D)
3D shapes are solid and take up space. A cube is like a square box. A sphere is like a ball. A cylinder is like a can. A cone is like an ice cream cone!
